Extra Credit

On October 26, 2001, President George W. Bush signed the Provide Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act (Patriot Act). One provision included the use of electronic surveillance - government searches of the Internet, including e-mail sent from home computers. Critics charged that electronic surveillance violated the rights of Americans. Supporters claimed that it protected them from harm. Do you agree with the critics or the supporters and why?

I agree with the supporters. They want to defeat terroism, and there trying to do what they can. They think that by doing that they can crack in on whose doing what. They say that the nations enemies use:e-mail, the Internet, phones and voice mail. People have found their way around the law by using todays top technologies. So they think that by weakening these technologies, they can crack down on terroism.

I agree with the critics because i believe there are other ways to find out who and where are terrorists. The Patriot Act intefere's with a person's personal life. There are things that people talk about over the phone or over via e-mail that they dont want anybody else knowing. Sometimes people joke around over the phone sayin thigns that the government might take seriously and it would cause some unnecessary trouble.

I agree with the critics because even though it does not seem like it they are violating our first amendment right they are sensoring what we can or canot do also what we can and canot say. This is violating our privacy. I know that terrorism is one of the biggest fears in the world right now but if you really want to see the terrorist you need to look no further than the WHITE HOUSE!!!

I agree with the supportes. I understand that terroism is a main issue in the world and i think that using information from our latest technology can help track them down. Although it may invade our privacy, if it takes one terriost down thats one less threat we have to worry about.

I agree with the supporters. I think that the government should do everything they can to prevent terrorism even if that is to check with internet and electric surveillance.I don't really consider those things an invasion to privacy because the government is just trying to make our country safer to live in. I personally feel safer as an American that the government is trying to keep me safe from a terrorist attact. What if the government had read one e-mail written about the attck on New York? Could the patriot act have prevented 9/11 from happening? If a little snooping around could prevent an attack like that from happening then i am all for it...

I would have to agree with the critics since they are right. They cannot be violating our privacy like that. Sometimes theirs things they are not suppost to listen, read or hear about, so it wouldnt be fair for them to find out about our private lifes.

I agree with the supporters. Because they are just trying to find terrorist. The latest technology can help them find more terrorist and keep us safe. Although it may invade our privacy. But if it's going to keep all of us safe i agree, and thats what matters.
